Portuguese Courses

Although our Portuguese lessons have the same 6 levels as the English, German and French courses, they are structured differently. This is because our students who study Portuguese have very different expectations compared to our Portuguese students learning a foreign language.

The foreign students who study Portuguese can be divided into 2 distinct groups:

• those who live in Portugal (full-time or part-time) and want to learn Portuguese to integrate fully into the community,
• or business people who normally need specialised courses relating to their professions.

Except in the case of beginners, all students are interviewed to assesss their levels. Students can choose to have private lessons or study in a group (4-8 students).  Our most popular group course is the 30-lesson one for beginners.  It is really enjoyable and the aim is to have students speaking Portuguese as quickly as possible.Our Portuguese Courses are structured as detailed below. Note that although these are for individuals, if you are a couple or there is another friend wanting to learn Portuguese at the same time as yourself, we do a 2 for 1 discount.For non-EU nationals, in order to acquire Portuguese nationality, there is a language proficiency requirement. Currently, you will need proof that you are proficient in Portuguese at the A2 level or higher.Therefore, we support and tutor students wishing to prepare for the official Portuguese as a foreign language exams that are provided by Centro de Avaliação de Português Língua Estrangeira (CAPLE). These follow the CEFR framework and the most frequently achieved certifications (worldwide) that CAPLE issue are listed below.CIPLE (A2)

The Certificado Inicial de Português Língua Estrangeira (CIPLE) corresponds to the minimum level of language proficiency needed to apply for Portuguese citizenship.DEPLE (B1)

The Diploma Elementar de Português Língua Estrangeira (DEPLE) certifies that an individual can interact in everyday situations, at work and study where the context and predictability of language is known.DIPLE (B2)

The Diploma Intermédio de Português Língua Estrangeira (DIPLE) certifies that an individual has an understanding of both oral and written Portuguese that is not limited to understanding only factual information.At present, we have no group courses that prepare you for the Portuguese as a foreign language exams.
